Self-Portrait in Garden at Dusk
We’ve often applied the same photographic approach we impose on our subjects to ourselves. We like the idea of adding ourselves to this body of work. The approaching darkness emphasizes the passing of time. The awkwardness of the poses underscores the fragility of life. The Gowlandflex camera was made by photographer Peter Gowland who with his wife Alice did the pinup calendars for the Rigid Tool Company that have decorated workshops across America for decades. They were depictions of clean-cut post-war fertility goddesses in swim suits. The earnestness and craft of the Gowland’s work has been an inspiration to us.
